January Showz

So I have figured out how to do advertisement like rubble bubble for this blog and the way to accomplish this is to do monthly go throughs of shows that I'm pumped for coming to the richmond area (with a hint of charlottesville & williamsburg shows from time to time) also if you click on the artist name it will link you to either a youtube clip or their myspace

January 8th: Wu-Tang Clan @ The National
Sounds like the full WU is going to be their (THE RZA IS BACK) and the fact that this isn't going down at toad's place is much appreciated. If you don't know what the WU is like than pick up 36 Chambers and get with the fucking program. Should be a good night of hip-hop but the 30 dollar price tag might be a little much (I'm still game however)

January 10th: Silk Flowers @ Thanky Space
Not sure if this show is actually going down anymore (it's off Silk Flowers myspace) but is still something to check out that night because the art gallery opening that night is still going down. Its an opening for the art of Sister Corita which is tight-shit, and i've been hearing rumors of free cupcakes that night.

*just got an e-mail from silk flowers stating that the art gallery reception has gotten canceled which is why the show of their's is now off their myspace (AKA THE SHIT IS CANCELED). Hopefully they will stop into richmond on their next tour*

January 23rd: Fucked Up @ Outback Lodge *Cz-Villz*
Great experimental hardcore punk band Fucked Up is going to be stopping down in Charlottesville so you know I'm going to be driving/greyhounding up for that shit. If you can't make it to c-ville however I would recommend checking out MV&EE @ The Triple, very chill freak folk esc music, good way to spend 5 dollars.

January 29th: Au @ Plaza Duckpin Bowl
I wont lie I'm not really sure how ambient experimental music is going to work in a bowling alley, but at the same time this is just something that I have to see go down. It also doesn't hurt that Au is quite bad ass and their most recent record was a great forgotten gem of 08

January 30th: Videohippos / Lazy Magnet / Bird Names @ The Church Of Crystal Light
SO FUCKING PUMPED FOR THIS SHOW. Missed Videohippos on their last tour due to not having a damn car. Now times have changed and I can see shows with this bad ass ability they call walking. Show should be a great night of lo-fi-neo-no-wave-esc rock music, and it doesn't hurt that its going down at probably the coolest venue of all of richmond (CHURCH OF CRYSTAL LIFE 4 FUCK)

Blogz Stylez Updatez

So I have deiced after much pondering to some what re-design this blog during these upcoming few weeks

Lets list the new changes in very stylish bulletin form

* More random posts of things on my mind (usually shows I am very excited to announce that are coming to richmond/nearish richmond

* Periodic album posts showing off new/forgotten gems that I am more or less feeling very ecstatic about

* Hopefully get a more colorful/interesting design to this blog, not sure how this technology shit works though (this goal might not be accomplished)

So basically I'm still gonna review the shows I go to. Still gonna list on the right side of the blog the shows I will be attending (aka the shows I highly recommend you various people attend) so nothing is gonna be lost, only more shit is gonna be added (this mother fucker is gonna be bloated 4 fuck)

So have a good holiday break and enjoy the photo up top of me eating a hamburger on the roof of my soon to be ex-condo

Larkin Grimm @ Twisted Branch Tea Bazaar (12-12-08)

Show was enjoyable
Laid back
Out their folk sound
Makes your head spin and makes your belly feel bloated
Lame press photo will be used due to me not bringing my camera to the show
Jim carrey is over-rated
Off-topic 4 fuck
I promise a more detailed review when I see GWAR
Studying be a calling me (a typical excuse, I know)

Skoal Kodiak / Knife World / Mincemeat Or Tenspeed / Dick Neff @ The Church Of Crystal Light (12-06-08)

After missing a few shows due to academic related studying I finally had a night with some free time and a interesting show coming to richmond, and i really don't think I could of picked a better night to let loose because what went down was one hell of a mind blowing surprise.

Me & my bro Matt got to the show a little late so we missed the first set from Dick Neff. which was disappointing because the set that he did opening for Xrin Arms was quite fantastic. So i'm gonna assume it was the same blitzkrieg of noise that just hits you into a joyous state of numbness. It's a good thing and hopefully next time he comes to richmond ill actually show up in time to see his set.

The first group we actually caught was Knife World. they released that vibe to me of Lightning Bolt, just like all guitar / drum duo groups do (even though Lightining Bolt goes for the bass, but i digress). The set was fun, lots of heads nodding, heads twitching, it was a fun chill DIY rock set. I can't say I was really mind fucked by this set but it was a very good way to start the night. These guys did have some fucking sweet art for sale, espically there album which cover is 3D and then when you take out the vinyl in the center of the record are some 3d glasses attached into the record, FUCKING BRILLIANT IDEA.

Next up was Mincemeat Or Tenspeed. I'm not sure exactly how this guy actually makes his music, he had a series of nobs and cables connected with one another. But that doesn't matter much because once he started playing whatever it is he was playing everyone in the venue went ape shit. A real great 10 minutes of noise bliss, details about this set escape me but I'm pretty sure I danced like a complete and utter idiot to this shit (and that is most definitely a good thing)

After that was Skoal Kodiak. I had stumbled across their myspace before coming to this show and was intrigued by their music, but nothing honestly could of prepared me for how great this group was live. They've got this real amazing noise rock thing going on but with these almost tribal/spiritual elements spewing out all at the same time. Just some real good energy was coming from the band and from the crowd. It was the perfect example of what makes richmond DIY scene so amazing (even though i believe there from Minneapolis). Also any band that has a circuit bent clorox bottle is my hero, its just a rule of life.

After that set some other guy played (the name escapes me) various just yelling into a microphone happened while having convulsions laying on the floor, getting PBR spilled into his mouth, it was just real silly but was oddly enough the perfect way to end the night, with some sort weird sort of comic relief, a great way to end a very accomplished night.
